At Bookmark Reading Charity, we exist to change children’s life stories through the joy of reading. Bookmark Reading Charity is looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Marketing and Communications Executive to join our team.

As the Marketing & Communications Executive, you will support the marketing team by delivering day-to-day marketing and communications activity across social media, CRM, email, website and print channels. You will create, schedule and publish content, manage operational briefs, and contribute to the delivery of integrated marketing campaigns.

Reporting to the Senior Digital Marketing Manager, you will work closely with the Digital Marketing Executive to deliver campaign activity and content plans, contributing ideas and audience insights while taking ownership of content creation, publishing and community management. You will also support PR, events and wider communications activity to help drive volunteer recruitment, supporter engagement and awareness of Bookmark's mission.

Job Description

Content Creation and Delivery

  • Create, edit and adapt engaging content for social media, email, website, blog and print channels.
  • Deliver content in line with agreed campaign plans and content priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Digital Marketing Executive to produce content that supports campaign objectives and audience needs.
  • Contribute content ideas, audience insights and emerging trends to campaign planning discussions.
  • Support the design and production of marketing materials while ensuring consistency with Bookmark's brand guidelines.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, accessibility, and quality across all communications.

Social Media Management

  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of Bookmark's social media channels, ensuring content is scheduled, published, and monitored effectively using Hootsuite.
  • Deliver social media activity aligned to campaign plans and content calendars.
  • Create and adapt content for different social platforms and audiences.
  • Monitor engagement, respond to comments and direct messages where appropriate, and escalate enquiries when required.
  • Support community management and social listening activities.
  • Monitor channel performance and share insights and recommendations with the Digital Marketing Executive and Senior Digital Marketing Manager.

CRM and Email Marketing

  • Create, build and distribute email campaigns in HubSpot, including newsletters, volunteer communications and event promotions.
  • Adapt and optimise email content for different audience segments, ensuring messaging is engaging, accurate and on brand.
  • Maintain email lists and supporter data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GDPR requirements.
  • Monitor email performance and share insights and recommendations to improve future communications.

Campaign Delivery

  • Support the delivery of integrated marketing campaigns that drive volunteer recruitment, supporter engagement, fundraising, and brand awareness.
  • Create and coordinate campaign content and assets across marketing channels, working to campaign content plans developed by the Digital Marketing Executive.
  • Contribute audience insights, content ideas and research to support campaign development.
  • Monitor campaign activity and support reporting on campaign performance and outcomes.

General Marketing and Communications Support

  • Manage enquiries and briefs submitted to the marketing inbox, ensuring requests are appropriately actioned and coordinated.
  • Manage urgent enquiries received through the PR inbox on designated days.
  • Coordinate the ordering, distribution and record-keeping of printed marketing materials.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the charity to ensure marketing activity supports organisational objectives.
  • Contribute ideas and insights to team planning, campaigns and communications activity.
  • Support the wider marketing team with administrative and operational tasks asrequired.

Person Specification

Education

  • A degree in marketing, communications, media, or equivalent experience or qualifications will be considered. 

Experience

  • Must have had at least one prior full or part-time marketing, communications or related role.
  • Working knowledge of marketing software and tools, content creation and social media (e.g. Hootsuite, Asana, HubSpot, Canva, Adobe Spark etc)
  • Experience in the charity or non-profit sector is beneficial, but not mandatory. 

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong copywriting skills with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and mediums, while adhering to brand guidelines.
  • Creative thinking with the ability to generate ideas and solve problems.
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks calmly and effectively at the same time.
  • Good understanding of digital marketing principles, including social media, email marketing, and content creation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic working knowledge of CRM systems or marketing tools.

Details

  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Salary: £28,860 per annum
  • Location: Bookmark Reading Charity, Charles House, 5-11 Regent Street, Saint James's, London SW1Y 4LR.  Minimum two days per week based at the Bookmark office
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Reporting to: Senior Digital Marketing Manager
