As a Materials Test Engineer, you will ensure materials and components used in Domino products meet performance, reliability, and compatibility requirements. Through laboratory testing and technical analysis, you will evaluate new materials and technologies, supporting product development and problem solving.

Working with engineers, scientists, manufacturing teams, and suppliers, you will help deliver robust test evidence, maintain laboratory equipment, and support testing activities across the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career engineer/scientist to develop specialist expertise and grow into a technical specialist within the Test Engineering team. The role is primarily based at our Bar Hill site due to its laboratory focus, with flexibility where appropriate.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and conducting material compatibility testing, particularly between Domino fluids and product materials.
  • Assessing and qualifying new materials, components, and supplier changes.
  • Supporting technical investigations, failure analysis, and issue resolution.
  • Developing and improving test methods, procedures, and laboratory practices.
  • Maintaining testing databases, reporting tools, and specialist equipment.
  • Analysing test results and providing recommendations to engineering teams.
  • Supporting print quality, substrate assessments, and wider testing activities.
  • Collaborating across the business to support product development and continuous improvement initiatives.

About you

You are a practical and analytical engineer or scientist with a passion for hands-on testing, technical investigation, and problem solving. You enjoy understanding how materials perform in real-world applications and using data to support engineering decisions.

Whether through academic study, an industrial placement, or previous experience, you have developed strong laboratory, analytical, and reporting skills. You can work independently, take ownership of your work, and collaborate effectively with colleagues across the business.

Essential:

  • Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience planning, conducting, and analysing laboratory testing.
  • Ability to produce clear technical reports and recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Enthusiasm for testing, investigation, and continuous learning.

Desirable:

  • Experience with laboratory equipment such as DSC, FTIR, or tensile testing systems.
  • Experience of failure analysis or reliability investigations.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and data interpretation.
  • Familiarity with print quality assessment or substrate evaluation.
