PDSL is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our engineering team at the PDSL Knowledge Centre, Warwick Science Park, Coventry.
This role is ideal for a graduate or early-career engineer looking to build hands-on experience in embedded software development, firmware, microcontrollers and hardware/software integration.
You will support the development, testing, debugging and validation of embedded systems using C/C++, working across both bare-metal and RTOS-based applications.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain embedded software using C and C++.
- Support firmware development for microcontroller-based systems.
- Develop and debug bare-metal and RTOS applications.
- Implement and troubleshoot I2C, SPI, UART and CAN communication.
- Support hardware/software integration, testing and fault investigation.
- Read electronic schematics, specifications and component datasheets.
- Use debugging tools such as GDB, JTAG and SWD.
- Use logic analysers and oscilloscopes to diagnose integration issues.
- Produce clear technical documentation and work collaboratively with wider engineering teams.
Skills & experience
We are looking for candidates with:
- Good knowledge of Embedded C and C++.
- Experience with at least one microcontroller platform such as STM32, NXP, Microchip, AVR or ESP32.
- Understanding of RTOS and bare-metal development.
- Knowledge of I2C, SPI, UART and CAN.
- Ability to read electronic schematics and datasheets.
- Familiarity with embedded debugging and laboratory test equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Education & experience
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
This role is particularly suitable for candidates with 0–3 years of experience.
