We are seeking a motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join Low-Rise Area Based Regeneration (Mixed Tenure Improvement Service).

This service delivers essential repairs, maintenance, and energy efficiency improvements to the common parts of mixed-tenure tenement blocks across Edinburgh – buildings containing both Council-owned and privately-owned flats.

About the role

Working alongside lead Quantity Surveyor, you will help ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high standards while providing value for money and strong stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with cost planning, estimating, tender preparation, contract documentation, and financial reporting for repair and improvement works.
  • Support contract management, variations, valuations, final accounts, and risk management for external consultants and contractors.
  • Contribute to option appraisals, budget monitoring, and performance reporting for MTIS projects.
  • Liaise with residents, private owners, contractors, and internal teams to facilitate smooth project delivery and compliance with legislation.
  • Help develop and improve commercial processes in this growing programme.

Ideal candidate

  • Relevant qualifications or working towards a Quantity Surveying degree.
  • Interest or experience in construction cost management, procurement, contract administration, and housing/refurbishment projects.
  • Strong numeracy, IT (including Excel), communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and undertake occasional site visits.
