Securing a graduate role at Goldman Sachs - Top tips from Fabian, a Graduate Analyst

Bright Network member Fabian will soon be joining the Realty Management Division (RMD) at Goldman Sachs as an Analyst. We caught up with him in a break from studying Management at LSE to hear about his experiences and top tips for those keen to follow in his footsteps.

What made you choose Goldman Sachs?

I completed a summer internship as an Analyst in RMD at Goldman Sachs and really enjoyed my time there, mainly because of the people. I had the chance to get to know all of my co-workers and found them extremely friendly and helpful. They really went out of their way to make sure I was getting on ok and were always looking out for me.

Overall, the application process that followed was relatively straightforward and enjoyable. From the point of initial application, right until the final round, the process was very interview based. At no point did I feel that there were any mean questions - they weren’t looking to catch me out but were genuinely interested and really gave me a chance to express why I wanted to work for them.

How would you advise future Goldman Sachs applicants?

Be motivated. It’s not all about academic achievements and competencies. They are looking for a personal fit too; someone who can work in a team and interacts well. At the end of the day you’ll be spending many hours a day together.

Also, get some work experience or internships under your belt. This proves your interest in the industry and gives you the chance to show them what you’re good at as well as an understanding of the role. Oh and, if you’re not too hot on the technical component element of the business, brush up on these skills too. If there was one area I felt I struggled, it was definitely this.
