Securing a graduate role with Morgan Stanley - Top tips from Preena, a Trading Graduate

Created on 12 Jun 2017

Preena studied Economics at UCL and recently landed a coveted Sales and Trading graduate role at international investment bank Morgan Stanley. Here she explains how a successful Spring Week with her future employer was the key to securing her dream job.

Having taken part in an A Level Insight Scheme with Morgan Stanley, I was thrilled to secure a Spring Week with them during my first year. I love the dynamic, exciting atmosphere of the trading floor.

The importance of networking

I knew I wanted to grow my career with Morgan Stanley so I was networking like crazy during the Spring Week. Making and maintaining connections is key to getting ahead, and you need to be memorable (for the right reasons). I think the most important thing is your attitude - be eager to learn and willing to get involved in anything and everything.

Everyone I met during the week was super friendly and really willing to help, even though I was so inexperienced. Even all the interns try and help each other - it was quite collegiate.

Stepping stone to success

Over the course of my Spring Week, my performance was tracked and I had three interviews. On the back of these, I was invited to the final round of Morgan Stanley's internship assessment centre and secured a position for the following summer. I was offered a permanent graduate role on the last day of my internship.

I'll be involved with selling securities and credit products during my time in the Sales and Trading graduate programme.
