Graduate insight into securing a vacation scheme with Linklaters

Created on 3 Jul 2017

We recently caught up with Bright Network member Ayobami on her experience of securing a role in the vacation scheme at Linkaters. Read below to hear her top tips.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

I initially heard about this role through the Bright Network website and chose to apply as Linkaters is one of the best law firms in the world with an excellent reputation. Because of this, I was confident that I would be exposed to a variety of successful clients. In my opinion, Linkaters stands out from other big City firms because of its genuine commitment to innovation and diversity and its entrepreneurial ethos.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

I found the inital application the most difficult part of the process. Particularly because of the word limit and the lack of guidance given on exactly what to write. However, after spending two weeks drafting and redrafting my application, I asked the career service at my university to provide me with feedback. Receiving honest and constructive feedback really helped me to identify the weaker areas of my application and improve them.

My favourite part of the application process was the assessment centre as it provided me with the opportunity to talk to a number of lawyers from the firm and demonstrate why I was the right person for the role.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

  • Tip 1: Research the firm
  • Tip 2: Identify why this firm is the one for you
  • Tip 3: Take every opportunity possible to meet members of the firm

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

I don't really have one. I just try to remain calm and trust in the preparation I have done.
