Simran is a Biomedical Science student from King’s College London. She has secured a Sales and Marketing Operations Placement Year at Bayer through Bright Network.
First, we’d love for you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
“Growing up, I always loved studying biology and chemistry, however I knew that I didn’t want to study them at university.
I began looking at other alternatives which is when I became interested in Biomedical Science, specifically Pharmacology.
This sparked my interest in the pharmaceutical industry, but I knew I didn’t want to work in a lab, so I started looking into the corporate side of the industry.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“I was attracted to Bayer as the therapeutic areas they focus on are ones I’m interested in, specifically oncology and women’s health.
Alongside this, Bayer's purpose and values align with my values too.”
How did Bright Network help you secure your role?
“Bright Network’s resources, such as their advice for CVs, interviews and assessment centres were very helpful.”
“As this was my first time properly applying for roles, Bright Network’s advice was crucial for me in preparation for my interview and assessment centre.”

What have you learnt from going through the process?
"It’s okay if you don’t understand something or if you need the interviewer to repeat the question – they're there to help you throughout the process."
What are you most proud of about your journey?
“When I first started doing online recorded interviews, I was nervous which led me to stuttering and losing my train of thought.
The more I’ve practiced these interviews, the more confident I’ve become, which helped me get further and further in selection processes.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“The best advice I received was to use the STAR technique for competency questions.
Using this technique meant I could plan out my answers and refer to the key skills they were looking for, whilst also acknowledging challenges and how I managed to overcome them.”
