Tiah's success story: Securing an industrial placement at Haleon

Created on 6 Oct 2025

Tiah is a Biological Sciences student from University of Leeds. She secured an Industrial Placement in Regulatory Affairs in Product Lifecycle Management at Haleon in Weybridge, through Bright Network.

First, please tell us a little bit about yourself.

“I wanted to go into the science industry and was specifically interested in the pharmaceutical, genetics and healthcare sectors.

I knew I didn’t want to work in a lab, so finding an opportunity at Haleon was perfect for me as I’m gaining experience within the science industry in a non-lab-based role.”

What motivated you to apply for your role?

“I knew I wanted to use trusted science to help people and that Haleon aligns with my values in terms of putting the consumer first.”

What was your application journey like?

“I used the STAR technique for interviews, which really helped!

I was most nervous about the Teams meeting interview and found the most challenging part of the application process was passing the online test stage.”

How did Bright Network help you secure your role?

“Bright Network helped me secure my role by informing me of the deadlines and dates of the science industrial placement during my search.”

What are you most proud of about your journey?

“I’m proud that I managed to secure an industrial placement after all the various interviews and application processes!

I had to stay resilient and keep applying, so I’m proud that I went on to secure an opportunity at a successful worldwide consumer health company.”

What have you learnt from going through the process?

“I learned to tailor my CV and cover letter specifically to the job description and its buzz words.

The process was longer and more challenging than expected, but I also learned not to give up!”

What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

“My advice would be to set aside time to dedicate to working on your applications and make sure you balance this with your studies.

Also, speak to people who have already secured a placement to get their advice on how to approach applications.”

Tell us about the future. What’s next?

“I’m excited to progress in my career and look forward to developing further in Regulatory Affairs as I’m enjoying my role and using science alongside other sectors such as oral health.”
