Thinking of applying? Here’s what to expect.

At the UK Intelligence Agencies, our application process is similar in many ways to other recruitment processes, but there is one key difference. It can last anywhere from 6 to 9 months, depending on the role. That's because, even once you've been offered a position, you'll still need to go through our vetting process. In most cases, you can expect a process that involves some (if not all) of the following...

Initial application
An online eligibility form which, if successful, is followed by a situational judgement test.
Full application
You'll fill out an application form. It's a detailed process, but you can save it and come back later.
Interview
Whether virtual or in-person, this is a relaxed, two-way conversation with one or two trained interviewers.
Assessment centre
For some specific roles, you may be invited to an assessment centre, where we test skills we can't assess in an interview.
Conditional offer
If you successfully complete the previous stages, we'll make you a conditional offer.
Security clearance
For most roles, you'll need the highest form of security clearance, called Developed Vetting. To get this, you'll go through the vetting process: meeting a vetting officer, completing an interview, and having us contact your referees.
Start date
Once your security clearance is confirmed, there's just one thing left to do… find out your start date! Congratulations – you've successfully completed the process.

When will I hear back about my application?

You’ll receive an update on your application whether you’re moving on to the next stage or not, though timeframes vary by role or programme. You can also check your status anytime via your candidate portal.

What if my application isn’t strong enough?

Try not to doubt yourself. Our people bring all kinds of life experience, work experience, skills, backgrounds and behaviours to their teams. Whether you're after your first job, seeking a career change, or returning from caring responsibilities or personal reasons, think about the skills and experiences you've gained so far. Chances are, you already have plenty to share.

Are the interview questions difficult?

Don't worry, we won't be trying to catch you out with trick questions. Our interviewers have been through the process themselves and know how daunting it can feel. Try to relax, be yourself, and, with a bit of good preparation, the answers will come.
