- I arrive at the office at around 9:30 and normally grab a quick coffee from the Hub before settling at my desk. The first thing I do is check in with my supervisor for a brief catch-up, then work through my emails to pick up any tasks that have come in overnight and check for updates on the transactions I am staffed on.
- Once I have been through my emails, I update any trackers that need attention. For example, logging signatures that have come in overnight on a deal that is in the process of signing. I then move on to more substantive work. A key task for trainees in a corporate seat is drafting ancillary documents such as board resolutions, which often takes me through to lunchtime.
- At lunchtime, I meet up with other trainees in my cohort, and we have lunch in the Hub, or up on the terrace if the weather is nice!
- At least once a week after lunch there is some form of training. Recently in my current seat we have been having technical training on setting up cap tables and funds flow, which has involved the whole team. This has been a great introduction to the type of work that associates do once qualified.
- Once training is done, I check in again on the signing progress of any documents that are outstanding and catch up with the associates I am working with. The afternoons tend to pick up once the US team logs on, which can mean I am needed to jump in to help with more ad hoc tasks, such as helping to send out documents, conducting research, or updating documents based on client comments.
- From around 5:00 pm, if it has been a busy day, I use the quieter evening hours to focus on any larger drafting tasks I have not yet had a chance to get to.
