8:45am – A Scenic Start
The day begins with a peaceful walk across Blackfriars Bridge, soaking in the views of the Thames and the city skyline. It’s a moment of calm before the bustle begins—a chance to mentally prepare for whatever the day might throw at you.
9:15am – Morning Catch-Up
Once at the office, it’s time for a quick coffee and chat with fellow trainees. These informal catch-ups are a great way to share updates, swap stories, and build camaraderie. It’s also a chance to hear what others are working on and pick up tips from their experiences.
9:30am – Planning & Prioritising
With caffeine in hand, I settle at my desk and consult my to-do list. It’s the anchor of my day—helping me prioritise tasks, track deadlines, and stay on top of the ever-shifting workload. From drafting documents to reviewing contracts, the morning is usually spent working through key deliverables.
12:30pm – Lunch Break
Lunch is often taken in the firm’s café, which offers a welcome break from the desk. If the weather’s kind, the rooftop terrace becomes the go-to spot—an oasis above the city where you can catch some sun and reset before the afternoon push.
1:15pm – Back to Business
The afternoon kicks off with a return to the day’s tasks, often reshuffled by the arrival of urgent emails or last-minute requests. Flexibility is key—being able to pivot quickly and manage competing priorities is part of the challenge (and the thrill) of the role.
2:30pm – Midday Reset
If time allows, I’ll step out for a quick walk around St Paul’s and grab another coffee. These short breaks are invaluable for clearing your head and regaining focus—especially when the inbox is overflowing and your screen time is creeping up.
3:00pm – Deep Work
The rest of the afternoon is typically spent in focused work mode. Whether it’s preparing a client memo, reviewing transaction documents, or helping coordinate a deal, this is when concentration matters most. It’s also a good time to check in with a supervising lawyer for guidance or feedback.
6:00pm – The Evening Unfolds
From 6pm onwards, the day can take many directions. Sometimes it’s off to a firm social—drinks with colleagues at a nearby bar or a team dinner. Other evenings, I’ll head to the gym to decompress. And of course, there are nights when the work continues, and I remain at my desk, pushing through to meet a deadline or wrap up a deal. The unpredictability is part of the experience—and part of the learning curve.
