I decided to apply for an internship in order to try a different industry and benefit from the many learning and development opportunities it offers compared to a standard job. And I’m so glad I did because the past 12 months have been truly life changing and I’m now in a career that I feel immensely proud of and fulfilled by.
The culture at the Health Foundation is very welcoming, and people are very generous with their time and support you to succeed. Personal and professional development is a priority and I’ve been fortunate enough to gain experience and training in coaching, writing, mentoring, and presentation skills to name but a few. The internship has also allowed me the freedom and flexibility to lean into the areas that are most interesting to me. For example, I’ve set up a mentoring programme and contributed to research on international comparisons of healthcare systems in light of my languages degree. Overall, the internship has been brilliant, and I would highly encourage anyone either early on in their career or straight out of university to apply.
