Book open Reading time: 3 mins

Luha, a Marketing Graduate Intern at CNN International Commercial, shares her experience of working for Warner Bros. Discovery so far.

What is your role and how long have you been at Warner?

I am a Marketing Graduate Intern in EMEA Marketing for CNN International Commercial and have been at Warner for just over five months.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

I’m originally from the Maldives and was brought up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I graduated in 2021 from Middlesex University, London with a BA in Film and had previously gained experience in the field of marketing and social media content creation prior to my current role.

What inspired you to apply for this role/this company?

I was intrigued by this role at CNNIC as they are committed to working on branded content, campaigns and much more that resonate and connect with a global audience. Coming from an international background myself, I was certainly drawn towards the international nature of the wider WarnerMedia business and expansive scope of the company.

What has been the single most important thing you learnt so far in your job?

I have learnt that it’s okay not to have everything figured out, ask as many questions as you need to and continue learning from your mistakes. Keeping in touch with fellow interns has also been beneficial throughout this experience as you’re all in the same boat. And lastly, make the most of the environment you’re in by learning from fellow colleagues and gain insight into the various roles you’re surrounded with.

What would a ‘normal’ day look like for someone in your role?

I begin each day with a marketing stand-up call, where my team and I come together every morning to catch up, update each other on progress and discuss our tasks for the day with our manager. This is super helpful in organising daily tasks which tend to vary depending on the day. When working on internal communications, this may include editing newsletters to updating the intranet, whilst external communications require scheduled social media posts to publishing content onto websites.

What do you find most interesting with the sector/industry you’re in?

Being able to observe certain workflows from ideation to completion within a global team has been a highlight of mine. As the industry continues to constantly grow and develop, there has been much to learn when working with team leaders and observing colleagues navigate each project.

What is the company culture like?

Welcoming, collaborative and inspiring are three words that come to mind when describing the company culture at WBD and CNNIC. Since day one, I have been encouraged through any doubts, had the opportunity to work with members in various teams and have been constantly motivated to dream big when surrounded by some very inspiring colleagues.

How important is diversity to you and what is Warner doing in this space at the moment?

A sense of familiarity around you is incredibly important at work, I’ve had the opportunity to surround myself with individuals from similar backgrounds which I’m very grateful for. Warner has hosted fantastic virtual and in person events for annual holiday celebrations and much more which has been a pleasure to take part in, and there are also some great business resource groups available to join where you can connect and build communities with likeminded individuals.

Finally, any tips for anyone who’d like to apply for a role at Warner?

Research is your best friend, connect with current or past interns as well as other members in the teams you wish to apply to, ask key questions, showcase your sincere interest during interviews and most importantly, stay true to yourself.
