Huda Mouktath – Finance Placement Intern (TT Games)

Book open Reading time: 4 mins

Huda, a Finance Placement Intern at TT Games, shares her experience of working for Warner Bros. Discovery so far.

What is your role and how long have you been at Warner?

I am the Finance Assistant at TT Games ltd which is the Lego Video Game developer. I am on Placement, and I have been in this role for 7 months.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

I am an Accounting and Finance student at Manchester Metropolitan University. I decided to go on a Placement to gain experience and an understanding of the finance industry. My goal is to complete the ACCA after graduation and become a Chartered Accountant.

What inspired you to apply for this role/this company?

Warner Brothers. Discovery is no doubt one of the largest multi-national entertainment companies- we have all heard of it by watching a WB film or series. When I came across the opportunity to work for TT Games and be part of WBD I knew this was going to be an exciting and unique experience especially as I was very familiar with the LEGO games. I was determined to get a Placement and the role as the Finance Assistant was perfect.

What has been the single most important thing you learnt so far in your job?

The most important thing I have learnt is that it is crucial to ask for help when needed. Joining such a large company and learning the tasks in a new role is daunting at first. I wasn’t comfortable to ask for help. But as I progressed, I realised mistakes are normal. Everyone (even managers) makes mistakes and there is no shame in that. Ask for help and learn.

I have learnt so many skills that I know will benefit me when I apply for future jobs- I have developed my communication skills significantly and as a result my confidence has grown.

What would a ‘normal’ day look like for someone in your role?

After I have clocked in, I check my emails first. As the Assistant I get a lot of queries regarding invoices and payments. After I have responded to the emails, I work on the tasks that have been assigned to me. A lot of the work I do assists my managers with the work they do- in other words I help make some of their work easier. I have daily Finance Meetings with the Team, which currently consists of 4 of us. We catch up, talk about work or just have general conversations. What I love about my job is the flexibility, I have the choice to go into the office whenever I like to or work from home.

What do you find most interesting with the sector/industry you’re in?

What I find most interesting in the industry I work in is that there is always something new happening- a new Series, Movie, Game being released. Working for TT Games, I get an insight of new Game ideas and I am able to see the process to creating it. Also, as I am Part of WB Games it is very exciting to learn about different Game Developers and the new Games to be released: Hogwarts Legacy and Suicide Squad. My job in Finance isn’t like any other typical finance role, there is an element of uniqueness and anticipation to see how successful the Games will be and how some still are. There is so much work that is done behind the scenes especially in Finance, I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity.

What is the company culture like?

Being in this role since 2022 I am not fully aware of what the culture was like pre-covid. However, it is very clear to me that company is trying to get back to how it was. TT Games have events and incentives to engage the employees which I find very thrilling. The frequent Town Halls (company meeting and updates) is a reminder that we all work together and for the same goals- it creates a sense of community and togetherness.

How important is diversity to you and what is Warner doing in this space at the moment?

Diversity is extremely significant to me; it is essential to feel comfortable and welcome in the company you work for. WBD have Diversity Programs to encourage people of different backgrounds equal access to opportunities. This is something that I value in a company.

Finally, any tips for anyone who’d like to apply for a role at Warner?

Go for it! Make sure you read and are informed of the different companies within WBD and choose one that you feel suits and interest you the most. It is an excellent company to work for and extremely enjoyable.
