CalMac Ferries Limited is the UK's largest ferry operator in terms of ships and destinations served and one of the largest transport operators in Scotland. It is a multi-award-winning ferry and port operation and ship management specialist providing essential lifeline services and logistical support to island and remote communities.
The role
This vacancy has been designed for ambitious graduates who want to develop a career within procurement and supply chain. The scheme allows graduates to develop their skills and knowledge in a diverse field which is invaluable to the success of CFL. The programme is suitable for all graduates who have gained a 2.2 degree (or higher), HND and/or a relevant qualification within Supply Chain. The graduate scheme is a 3-year commitment and will be subject to achievement milestones as per the graduate training programme and objective plan. The role will have an assigned mentor who will provide support and guidance in addition to the line manager who will set the objective plan which will be updated annually.
Principal accountabilities
Year 1
The Graduate Trainee would build introductory knowledge to procurementin this first year and gain an understanding of the end-to-end supply chain cycle in practice. They will learn the key obligations of various procurement processes and the minimum requirements that should be considered which will allow for a greater appreciation of supply chain policy. It will be expected that this role would step in to support the wider Supply Chain team as required. It will be a mandatory requirement that study towards the CIPS Level 4 qualification is commenced and completed in this year.
Year 2
In the second year, the Graduate Trainee will build on the knowledge achieved in Year 1. It will be expected that that they will support and lead on elements of procurement and supply chain at an appropriate level in line with their level of experience. It will be expected that this role will continue to support the wider Supply Chain team as required. They should work towards completion of their CIPS qualification and should aim to commence and complete CIPS Level 5 in this year.
Year 3
In the final year, the Graduate Trainee will continue to build on the knowledge achieved in previous years. It will be expected that that they will support and lead on elements of procurement and supply chain at a more advanced level than Year 2 with support given to the wider Supply Chain team as required. They should continue towards completion of their CIPS qualification and should aim to commence and complete CIPS Level 6 in this year.
Qualifications, skills, and experience
- Degree, HND and/or relevant qualification within Supply Chain.
- Self-starter who can prioritise tasks and deliver results without constant supervision.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to multitask and prioritise.
- Excellent organisational, planning and administration skills.
- Ability to deal with staff at all levels, both internally and externally.
- A good working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- A high level of proficiency in Power BI and SharePoint.
- Attention to detail.
- Awareness of new technological and best practice advances in Procurement.
