Unleash your leadership potential, with the exposure, networking and development opportunities you need to shape your own way forward and help improve millions of lives.
What could I be involved in as a Diplomatic and Development Fast Streamer?
Shape your future leadership career at the centre of world events.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) promotes the interests of British citizens, safeguards the UK’s security, defends our values, reduces poverty and tackles global challenges with our international partners. We bring the whole of the Government together to deliver our international strategy with one voice overseas.
On this scheme, no two Fast Streamers share the same career path. Each role takes different skills to succeed and gives exposure to a wide range of opportunities, which may include overseas travel or learning a new language. Whatever your role, you’ll have the opportunity to formulate and implement policy, engage with key stakeholders and build a portfolio of skills in both the development and diplomacy space.
After successfully finishing the scheme you’ll have the opportunity to take a role based overseas, in one of the FCDO’s worldwide network of diplomatic and development offices, embassies and high commissions.
Growing your knowledge, skills and experience
You’ll have two 12-month placements in policy and operational roles, along a training programme focussed on leadership and developing your skills in diplomatic tradecraft and international development.
As a Diplomatic and Development Fast Streamer you’ll have outstanding access to development opportunities through the International Academy, covering a wide range of essential and job specific subjects. You’ll also benefit from on-the-job training, as well as mentoring and work shadowing opportunities.
To apply, you’ll need
- A 2:2 degree, degree apprenticeship or higher (or be expecting to achieve any of these) in any subject
- British citizenship (those with dual nationality may apply).
- To have been a resident in the UK for at least 5 of the previous 10 years, including a consecutive 12-month period.
We support applicants with health conditions, learning difficulties and disabilities, with their applications and through their Civil Service careers. We operate a Guaranteed Interview Scheme. If you have a disability and meet the minimum qualifying criteria for your chosen scheme, you may choose to skip part of the first stage of the assessment process.
All Diplomatic and Development Fast Streamers must be granted ‘Developed Vetting’ security clearance before starting.
