Our world-class Total War team are seeking a Trainee Technical Artist to join us at our UK Games development studio based in Horsham, West Sussex. The successful candidates will work on our current and unannounced titles whilst being mentored by senior members of the team. In this role, you will have access to our learning and development portal as well as our bespoke Trainee Developer Program.
Key Responsibilities
As a Trainee Technical Artist, with support from your mentor and the other Technical Art team members, you will undertake the creation of tools, and shaders, to support the artists across the Total War projects.
Alongside this, you will be expected to gain an understanding of our in-house tools, technical art codebase, engine, and artist workflows.
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
- Continue building on your knowledge and understanding of our in-house tools, technical art codebase, engine, and workflows
- Communicate with members of the Total War team
- Work closely with your designated mentor
- Complete designated tasks you’ve been given
- Attend the technical art morning and evening stand-ups
- Attend meetings as needed
- Supply ‘Show & Tell’ slides.
As you become more accomplished in your area of development, your mentor will lead you to becoming involved in the planning process and you will have the opportunity to add useful ideas to the work making a real difference for content creators.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience
Essential
- Experience writing code in any language
- Knowledge and/or experience of shader creation HLSL and/or node-based
- Working knowledge of 3d content creation package(s) e.g. 3dsmax, Maya, Blender
- Good problem solver
- Team focused with strong communication skills
- Positive, can-do attitude.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Python
- Procedural content creation / Houdini knowledge
- Having completed game jams, tools and/or personal projects
- Art background or training
- Understanding of the state of the art in games, and of gameplay.
