CRU is looking for an Analyst to join us on our journey in transforming how we bring data into the business. Working in the Multi Commodity team, which sits centrally in the Analysis business division, you will collaborate across the departments and be responsible for supervising the flow of data into Analysis. You will play an active role in data analysis, data reconciliation, managing data collection and establishing robust new processes. This will have a substantial impact on our teams’ workflow and on our customer deliverables. This is business transformation role which offers significant opportunity for growth and is an ideal platform for someone starting their career at CRU.

What is involved?

This role will provide the opportunity to use and develop data, analytical and communication skills on a daily basis. These could include:

Data Analysis

  • Understanding how companies report operational data, and how this data can be utilised for the benefit of CRU’s analysis, particularly regarding emissions.
  • Ensuring asset level data, for example, production, cost, financial, emissions data are collected and reconciled from company reports or public disclosures.
  • Learning to clean, prepare and structure data for later analysis.
  • Performing analysis to understand trends and develop insight.
  • Opportunity to communicate data discoveries through client facing written pieces and webinars.

Project Management

  • Managing QA/QC for structured data collection tasks on a repeat basis.
  • Coordinating with analysis teams to establish data requirements.
  • Collaborating with IT Development to design and implement data platforms.

Communication / Presentation

  • Engaging with customers to communicate solutions to their data requirements.
  • Liasing with our external data collection partner to create and optimise a centralised dataflow process into the business.
  • Ensuring integration into existing data platforms working closely with the Data Governance team.

About you

Candidates should be degree educated. The Undergraduate degree (First or 2:1), should be from a top British university, or equivalent level qualification from a leading university outside of the UK. We are interested in hearing from graduates with an Economics, Mining, Geology, Engineering or Mathematics background.

  • Strong background in Mathematics and/or Economics
  • Education background in mining, mineral economics, resource/extraction, energy, engineering or would be an advantage
  • Strong quantitative background and a creative thinker based on a robust approach to data/modelling
  • Either practical or analytical work experience in mining, resource/extraction, energy, or engineering sectors
  • The ability to construct and express a well-reasoned and logical argument, evidenced by supporting data and with clearly articulated assumptions
  • Goal-oriented, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm; able to operate efficiently, effectively, and professionally within a results driven business environment
  • An analytical mind-set and able to get to grips quickly with the intricacies and complexities of the economics and data that drive our business and strategy
  • Creative in the application of first principles to problems and mindful of the time constraints of a business environment
  • Approachable, with a positive and collaborative attitude
  • Enthusiastic regarding delivering the highest quality work to each and every client
  • Excellent IT skills including the use of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • First class communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Fluent in English
