Our summer internship is a 6-week programme designed to provide the experience and skills you need in your studies and future career. Our Norwegian and UK internship will begin on 19 June and ends on 4 August 2023, with one week off starting 17 July. We are looking for a summer interns to join our central Design, Software and Data Science (DSD) unit within Technology Digital and Innovation (TDI).  We seek to impact the entire organization with groundbreaking innovations and powerful improvements. The Data Scientist role is a key part of our digitalization efforts at Equinor. For us, data science means delivering products that create high value.

In theTDI DSD unit we specialise in diverse fields such as Natural Language Processing (NLP). NLP is a field at the intersection of AI, Computer Science and Linguistics. It is about handling natural language data with computers. Equinor uses NLP to efficiently find, extract, interpret and process information hidden in text and unstructured data.

As a summer intern you will work with our NLP data scientists in the London office and join the Knowledge AI team. This team develop successful NLP products that are used in Equinor’s production systems for operations and maintenance, safety and exploration. You will work with State-Of-The-Art Transformer technology on an exciting NLP based project. In addition, you will have the opportunity to learn from our business experts in an area such as gas trading. Previous interns successfully worked on a project with domain experts, developing a prototype using MS Azure, Python scripts and NLP to assist Equinor traders with market analysis using twitter data.

As a summer intern you will interact with the wider Information Technology and Digitalisation departments and have the opportunity to present your final project results. By joining our team you:

  • Currently studying for Bachelor’s, Master’s degree or Ph.D. with a strong academic record within Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Computational Linguistics or similar.
  • Fluent in English and preferably a second working language
  • No more than two years of relevant full-time work experience
  • Have completed at least two years of higher education before the internship programme starts (19 June 2023)
  • Have at least one year of higher education left after the internship programme ends (4 August 2023)
  • The interns need to be located in the country where the internship takes place during its entire duration. Equinor does not support any relocation for our summer interns.
  • Please note that Equinor does not support, or sponsor work or visa permits for internship applications. Candidates must have the necessary work permit/visa for the UK. The work permits/visas must be valid at the point of application and for the duration of the internship.
