Shape future tax decisions through insight and impact.

Programme overview

On the Tax Summer Internship, you’ll shape the future with confidence, gaining hands-on experience of how businesses manage and apply tax rules in practice. Working with experienced professionals, you’ll develop technical knowledge and contribute to real client work. As a Shaper of the future, you’ll build confidence and practical tax skills through collaboration, making a meaningful impact from day one.

Core skills for success

  • Ownership and proactivity – Takes responsibility for tasks, follows through on commitments, and is accountable for delivering high-quality work.
  • Adaptable and resilient – Works effectively under pressure, adapts to change, and maintains a positive, solution-focused mindset when facing challenges.
  • Collaboration, communication and relationship building – Builds trust with colleagues and clients, communicating effectively and working collaboratively across teams.
  • Integrity and quality – Acts with honesty and strong professional judgement, ensuring compliance with regulations and challenging anything that doesn’t align with ethical standards or best practice.

What you will be doing

  • Work on real client assignments, gaining first‑hand experience of how businesses apply tax rules and make decisions that impact society.
  • Collaborate with supportive teams and mentors, building relationships while contributing to live projects from day one.
  • Apply tax knowledge alongside data and EY tools to analyse information and support practical solutions.
  • Build confidence and career insight quickly, gaining exposure to different tax areas and a clear pathway into a future role.

Please note: Due to UK policies, you must be based in the UK for the entire duration of the programme.

Eligibility for applying

You’ll need a minimum of Level 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths; and three A-levels/5 Highers (or equivalent). You’ll also be an undergraduate at university, in any subject or year.

While we welcome applications from candidates of all academic backgrounds, we are looking to recruit individuals who will succeed at EY in the role and future qualifications. We have completed several studies on academic attainment at A-level (or equivalents), candidate performance in the online assessments in the EY recruitment process, and how that predicts future performance at EY.

Throughout the recruitment process, we therefore assess your suitability for the EY role you have applied to by considering your scores in the online assessments and your academic attainment at A-level or equivalent. This approach is designed to ensure our joiners are successful in role and, where relevant, in the achievement of their professional qualifications. It is important to EY, and we have a duty of care which we take very seriously, to ensure our joiners are set up for long-term success.
