    At Frazer-Nash we really like problems... but we really love solving them! In a nutshell engineering consultancy is all about providing technical advice to positively impact our clients’ projects and businesses and the wider world around us.

    Within our consultancy you’ll often hear us talk about “Physics, People and Projects” because consultancy is the juncture at which these three skills meet. As a Frazer-Nash Summer Intern you will enjoy:

    • bringing your technical and scientific insight to solve complex problems;
    • working with specialist and non-specialist stakeholders to deliver insight in a form they can understand and action; and
    • doing so in project-centred environment to make an impact of some of the world’s most pressing challenges such as Net Zero 2050, energy security, future mobility and global security.

    The above brings a great variety of challenges which can be at the technical, stakeholder engagement or project delivery level. You will typically be working on multiple projects simultaneously, managing your time and accruing a wealth of experience and skills. Hence, no two days in Frazer-Nash will be the same.

    Team Information

    Within this role you’ll be part of one of our Fluids and Thermal team. This team helps our clients understand the performance of fluids and thermal systems throughout the project lifecycle from concept through to decommissioning.

    We work closely with our neighbouring Asset Integrity and Energy Assurance areas to help ensure that engineering plant performs, lasts and is safe to operate.

    Approximately two-thirds of our Fluids and Thermal work is focussed in the clean energy sector. This is split on-third nuclear (from decommissioning through nuclear new build to new fusion technologies) and one-third in offshore wind energy systems and enabling energy vectors (e.g. battery storage and hydrogen). The final one-third of our work supports our Defence and Transport Business Units helping keep us safe and mobile.

    In addition to delivering impactful work to our clients, we also regularly share our technical developments through contributions to journals, international conferences and white papers.

    Our staff are often invited to share their expertise at events and seminars and many hold prestigious roles on the technical committees of conferences and professional engineering institutions.

    What you’ll be doing at Frazer-Nash?

    In our Fluids and Thermal team you will be utilising tools from state-of-the-art numerical simulations run on high performance computing clusters to bespoke analytical models derived from first principles.

    You will learn to use your skills to guide when and where to use each type of tool to add value and understanding. You will be responsible for your own work from day one but working as part of a wider technical team.

    Engineering Consultancy is very dynamic with our balance of projects changing on a daily basis. Hence, it is difficult to forecast the exact projects that you will be working on at application stage.

    However, as a Summer Intern you will be involved in a mixture of activities including supporting client-facing delivery under supervision and conducting internal Research and Development work focussed on new technologies, methods or markets.

    You Summer Internship at Frazer-Nash will enable you to develop new engineering and client facing skills and to see engineering in action from a complete technical, project and commercial perspective. In addition, to your designated group you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other discipline teams from within your office and across Frazer-Nash’s portfolio of UK offices.

    • Experience of working in industry and/or consultancy through previous internships or year in industry schemes.
