Global Supply Chain (GSC) is the group within GSK that is responsible for making and supplying medicines and vaccines across the globe. At our manufacturing sites we produce over 2.3 billion medication packs and vaccines doses to 90% of the world's countries.
An opportunity exists for candidates with a STEM or business background to work alongside a team to help deliver business improvement projects. In addition to this, opportunities will arise to develop in coaching, problem solving, continuous improvement, project management and communication processes, which can be readily transferable to many other jobs.
You will work as a member of the GSK Production System (GPS) team, who use industry standard LEAN / 6-Sigma methodologies to fix problems and make improvements throughout the business. Every department on the site is a potential customer, but our key relationships are with our Operations, Laboratory, Engineering and Supply Chain colleagues.
You will learn about our tools and methods, then how to manage a project and work with a team effectively to deliver a successful outcome. The role ranges from learning about manufacturing and testing products to gaining knowledge surrounding the ‘people’ side of business.
You will be applying the skills you already have learnt at university and developing new skills such as team working, effective communication and time management. You will work with and learn from an experienced, multi-disciplined team. They will coach and mentor you during your year to help you achieve your potential. In time, you will also engage and coach your industrial placement peers in the GOS tools and techniques to help them succeed in their own departments.
Who are we looking for?
- A passion for healthcare and getting ahead of disease.
- Strong interpersonal and teamworking skills
- An interest and basic knowledge in some or all of - human health and disease, manufacturing engineering, laboratory science and microbiology, business and supply chain management
- Good Microsoft Excel and Word skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to interact with people at all levels in the organisation
- Ability to work on your own initiate to drive improvements and projects
- An interest or experience in data analytics, such as visualising data using PowerBI
- Ability to demonstrate qualities aligned with GSK Values and Expectations
Role/Location: Barnard Castle
The Barnard Castle site is located in the North-east of England is sited within the County Durham countryside. Barnard Castle is a key secondary site for GSK with a large number of New Products coming through development at site. We manufacture and supply a huge range of different pharmaceutical products from Sterile Products (Syringes and Vials) to Liquid Inhalations and Dermatological. We have recently opened a new state of the art aseptic digital facility producing biopharmaceuticals.
The successful candidate will integrate into the GPS team and be expected to deliver a business, compliance, or communications improvement project. In addition to this, opportunities will arise to support day to day operations and communications in a key manufacturing site, working in a safe and compliant manner. Exposure to this high volume and fast paced environment will build a great understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing and business improvement to secure and sustain the site strategy for the future.
This role will particularly suit someone who is excited by the opportunity to experience working on a pharmaceutical manufacturing site.
