In a nutshell
We are a Mechanical and Electrical services contractor and are actively seeking to recruit for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to provide support to Commercial Team within our Head Office in Solent (Fareham). You will support our Senior Quantity Surveyors/Commercial Managers who are responsible commercially on the delivery of a fast track multi-million-pound.
The ideal candidate would be able to support in providing full commercial awareness to ensure the project management and operational delivery team are aware of all commercial and contractual matters involved on the project, whilst also providing support to the Commercial team as appropriate and required.
Day to day
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial delivery of M&E projects by assisting with cost reporting, subcontractor payments, valuations, variations, procurement, and maintaining accurate commercial records. Working closely with the Commercial team, you’ll gain hands-on experience across all stages of the project lifecycle.
This will often include the following activities:
- Support the commercial team with activities throughout the design and pre-construction phases, including assisting with the preparation of AMP (Absolute Maximum Price) tender submissions.
- Work closely with the design, pre-construction and estimating teams to ensure effective commercial support is provided.
- Assist with the review of client contracts and subcontract documentation under the guidance of senior team members.
- Support the procurement process, including obtaining quotations and preparing subcontract documentation for specialist subcontractors.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of monthly interim valuations and the management of variations.
- Prepare subcontractor payment applications and maintain accurate commercial records in line with contractual requirements.
- Support the agreement of subcontractor variations and final accounts.
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly financial reports and cost reporting.
- Review project programmes and assist in ensuring contractual notices and documentation are issued as required.
About you

Here are some of the qualities we are looking for in the right person to join our team:
- HNC/HND/BSc in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline (or currently working towards this qualification).
- Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, with confidence in dealing directly with clients and design teams.
- Commercially aware, with good attention to detail and a proactive, enterprising approach.
- Highly motivated, willing to learn and develop, and able to take responsibility when required.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting both operational colleagues and the wider commercial function.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks across several projects simultaneously and adapting to changing business needs.
- Basic understanding of construction contracts and processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Flexible in approach to work and hours to meet the demands of the role.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a similar role or through an industry placement during studies.
- Some knowledge or experience of Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) projects.
- Demonstrable ability to add value to the role, department and wider business.
