London (with opportunities to work overseas after 3 years)
Flexible working: we support a range of working patterns, full-time, part-time (minimum of 3 working days), compressed hours and job shares. Due to the nature of the role homeworking will not be possible.
We’re MI6, also known as Secret Intelligence Service. Our mission is to protect the security and economic wellbeing of the UK from overseas threats such as regional instability, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. Working across the globe and in close partnership with MI5 and GCHQ, we help the Government to counter these threats through the provision of secret intelligence. A role in MI6 will see you providing vital support to this work, within a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.
About the role
As a Business Support Officer, you’ll be at the heart of our operations, providing the essential administrative support that keeps the organisation running smoothly. Working as part of a collaborative team, you could be involved in:
- Supporting intelligence and operational teams
- Managing diaries, meetings and travel arrangements
- Producing reports and handling information
- Assisting senior colleagues
- Contributing to project and team activity
From day one, your work will be valued and you’ll be encouraged to share ideas and find new ways of doing things.
You’ll begin on a structured three-year development pathway, gaining experience across different teams and environments. This will allow you to build a broad skillset, develop confidence and gain a deep understanding of how the organisation works.
Once you’ve completed this pathway, you’ll have the opportunity to work overseas in one of our many global locations. This is a unique aspect of our organisation, offering the chance to experience new cultures, take on fresh challenges and continue developing in a dynamic international environment.
For those motivated by variety, travel and continuous development, this is a career that can grow in many different directions.
About you
Organised, reliable and collaborative, you’ll be comfortable working with a range of people and managing a varied workload. You’ll be adaptable, motivated to learn and keen to contribute as part of a team.
There’s no ‘type’ of person we look for – what matters is your curiosity, your willingness to develop and your ability to work flexibly in a changing environment. You’ll be open to new experiences and interested in building a career that could take you beyond the UK. You’ll also need a minimum of 5 GCSEs, Grades 9–4 (A–C) including Maths and English Language (or equivalent).
We’d particularly encourage people from Black, Asian or other ethnic minority backgrounds* to register their interest. We recognise these groups are currently underrepresented in our workforce and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive organisation where everyone can contribute and thrive.
