Bring people together to deliver change.

Our 10-week Project Management Summer Placement gives you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting projects across the rail industry. You'll work with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders, develop valuable project management skills and gain insight into how major infrastructure and business change projects are delivered.

If making an impact matters to you. You matter to us.

What you’ll be doing

Take the opportunity to develop project management skills while gaining experience across a range of projects and business areas.

You'll contribute to meaningful work while building the knowledge and experience needed for a career in project management. You'll have the opportunity to:

·        Support infrastructure and business change projects across the railway

·        Build relationships with stakeholders and helping to coordinate project activities

·        Use data to track progress, identify issues and support decision-making

You'll also gain valuable insight into how projects are delivered in a live operational environment, learning about the challenges, opportunities and responsibilities involved in delivering change across the rail industry.

Who you are matters

You'll need to be in your penultimate year at university and be on track to achieve a minimum of a 2:2 degree in any subject and the flexibility to travel within your region for training and work activities, including occasional overnight stays.

How you bring people together, approach challenges and contribute to a team is important to us. You may already have developed these strengths through a part-time job, volunteering, university activities, team sport or other experiences.

We’ll support you in building the project management skills you need. What matters most is your willingness to learn, get involved and grow. We’re looking for people who are ready to:

•         Take ownership and follow through on commitments

•         Build positive relationships, collaborate with others and value different perspectives

•         Share ideas confidently and raise questions or concerns constructively

•         Welcome feedback and make the most of opportunities to develop

•         Use data and information to explore problems and make informed decisions

You’ll be supported throughout your placement, with plenty of opportunities to learn from others, build your confidence and make a valuable contribution to your team.

What you’ll get out of it

Over 10 weeks, you'll gain valuable insight into what it takes to work in Project Management at Network Rail. You'll be surrounded by supportive colleagues and receive coaching from experienced professionals as you develop your skills, confidence and industry knowledge.

We invest in our summer placement students because we believe they have the potential to become the future of our business. If you impress us during your placement, you'll be considered for future opportunities, including the following year's Graduate Scheme.
