The Graduate Failure Analysis Engineer is responsible for the investigation of customer return issues and other quality or development concerns, helping to establish their root cause and identifying corrective and preventative actions. This involves electrical and physical failure analysis, the use of problem-solving methodologies, analysis of data, collaborating with cross functional teams, suppliers and external failure analysis services and documenting findings in an 8D format.

General responsibilities

  • Participates in the evaluation of the electrical and mechanical characteristics of systems and/or integrated circuits, components, sub-components and systems to determine the cause of failure, including the verification of analog and digital performance
  • Assists with analysing failure reports and recommends corrective action. Develops methods, processes, procedures and equipment that will improve the failure analysis process and/or reduce failures
  • Participates in product returns and Conduct product failure analysis
  • Meet and exceed internal and external Service Level Agreements
  • Maintain daily productivity / workflow reports
  • Maintain, review and update process documentation on a regular basis
  • Participates in reviewing current processes on a regular basis and implement new processes as required
  • Ability to read blueprints, specifications and engineering changes
  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels

Experience qualifications

  • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation.
  • Strong organisation, planning and time management skills to achieve results.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organisation including suppliers and/or external customers.
  • Operate and maintain electrical bench equipment used in failure analysis (power supplies, signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers)
  • Operate and maintain physical failure analysis laboratory equipment (microscopes, including SEM/EDX. decapsulation and encasing/polishing tools) to support physical failure analysis activities.
  • Complete quality and performance testing of production and developmental ASICs.
  • Carry out QA control testing on product in accordance with defined test conditions and instructions, including visual inspections.
  • Document and report on failure analysis results, ensuring compliant record control and storage in alignment with the Quality Management System.
  • Assist in providing relevant KPI metrics.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Experience in analysing data
  • Knowledge of a programming language such as Python
  • An Understanding of semiconductor manufacturing and assembly
