Joel is an Economics graduate from the University of Leeds. He secured a Transition Manager role at Rothesay in London.
First, please tell us a bit about yourself!
“I studied Economics at the University of Leeds and got on the Rothesay graduate scheme two years after graduating.
My first role after university was at an independent financial advisory firm as an assistant to financial planners. After that I travelled for a year, and during my travels I worked in Investment Operations for a financial services company in Melbourne.
These two roles gave me the relevant skills and experience to get a job at Rothesay, a Pensions Insurer, as a Trade Implementations Analyst.”
What motivated you to apply for the role?
“I was attracted to apply because of the work culture. Rothesay has a flat working structure which gives graduates the responsibility at the start of their career and encourages them to find better ways to do things.”
What are you most proud of about your journey?
“I’m most proud of being given genuine responsibility at an early stage in my career.”
What’s your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“My advice would be to prepare as thoroughly as you can for interviews.”
What have you learnt from going through the process?
“It’s important to be able to give genuine answers for the questions around motivations for the role and the company.”
Tell us about the future. What’s next?
“The goal is to keep on enjoying work and putting myself out of my comfort zone!”
