Retail media is the commerce-driven side of advertising focused on online & in-store shopping. You may think a career in advertising is all about social media or creative campaigns… you’d be wrong. Data and driving commercial outcomes are at the heart of what we do within digital media, especially within Retail Media, the fastest-growing channel in the industry.

Why should it interest you?
Let’s break it down.
Retail Media focuses on how brands show up and perform on retailer websites and in physical stores. Rather than advertising on platforms like Google or social media, this area is about running ads directly on retailer websites, apps and stores such as Amazon, Tesco, Boots or Argos, where people are already searching for products. For example, when you shop on sites like Amazon or Tesco, you’ll often see sponsored products at the top of your search results, these are ads used by brands to drive visibility and performance.
👉 In simple terms: It’s about helping brands get their products seen at the moment people are ready to buy.
What will you do?
In an entry-level Retail Media role, you’ll support the day-to-day running of advertising campaigns across retailer platforms. Set up and optimise advertising campaigns (e.g. Amazon Ads, Criteo), analyse performance data to identify trends and opportunities, monitor results such as clicks, sales and return on investment, create reports and dashboards to share insights, support planning and forecasting of campaign spend, work with retail and tech partners such as Amazon, Tesco and Criteo. You’ll be working in a data driven environment, where decisions are based on performance and results.
Is it right for you?
Retail Media could be a great fit if you: Enjoy working with numbers, data or Excel. Like spotting patterns and improving performance, want a role where you can see the impact of your work, are organised and comfortable managing multiple tasks and are interested in how shopping works behind the scenes. You don’t need prior experience, just a willingness to learn and get stuck in.
Why is it growing?
Online shopping continues to grow and retailers are becoming increasingly important as media partners. Brands are investing more in Commerce because it’s highly measurable and focused on driving real business outcomes. Retail data and audiences are also very valuable to brands as it they are based on what people actually buy, rather than just demographics or the content they consume. That’s why it’s the fastest growing area in digital media. The advertising role you’ve probably never heard of. You may think advertising is only creative, but Commerce offers a different route into the industry. It’s a great option if you’re interested in data, performance and understanding what drives results. The space is constantly evolving, with new platforms, tools and retail partnerships, so you’ll be learning and developing as you go.
