Why Ryan chose Helix Law for its commitment to technology and innovation

Meet Ryan

After completing my LL.B. and passing the Solicitors Qualifying Examination, I initially accepted a position on a graduate scheme with a large law firm. Although the role offered a secure route to qualification, I soon realised that the environment was not the right fit for me. Large firms are rightly renowned for their prestige and substantial resources, yet their very scale can foster a rigidity that hinders the adoption of new technology.

Many of the firm’s systems felt outdated, and numerous inefficient processes were so entrenched that any proposal for change was summarily dismissed/unworkable.

Determined to find an organisation that embraced innovation, I continued my search and ultimately discovered Helix. The firm’s commitment to technology immediately impressed me. Every team member receives dual monitors or an ultra-wide monitor for home use, an enterprise-grade (best on market) laptop, and access to a continuously evolving suite of AI-powered tools designed to streamline our work.

I have now been at Helix for over a year and have been offered multiple opportunities to develop my skills on the path to qualification as a specialist litigation solicitor. During this time, I have handled a broad range of matters under supervision, including professional negligence claims, partnership disputes, and breach-of-contract actions. Although assuming primary responsibility for cases demands strategic thinking and rigorous client management, the firm’s supportive culture ensures I am not left to fend for myself. The partners encourage open dialogue and routinely remind me that I am not expected to have every answer; consultation with more experienced colleagues is actively encouraged.

In the immediate future, I intend to continue cultivating key skills, broadening my knowledge, and ultimately qualifying as a solicitor at Helix.
