Hi, I'm Emma from LCP's Early Careers team.

Deciding where to start your career is a big decision, so it's completely natural to have lots of questions before applying. To help you learn more about LCP, I've answered some of the questions we're most frequently asked by students and graduates. I hope the information below gives you a better insight into our opportunities, our culture and what you can expect if you join us.

Emma Lindley

What hours do you work in an average week?

As a graduate, you'll typically work 35 hours per week. We place a strong emphasis on wellbeing and maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and you'll be supported by your manager and colleagues as you settle into your role.

As with most consultancy roles, there may occasionally be busier periods where additional flexibility is needed to meet client commitments or project deadlines. However, we encourage sustainable working practices and support our people in managing their workload effectively.

Whether you're studying for a professional qualification, developing technical expertise, or building your consulting skills, we'll help you balance your development and responsibilities in a way that supports both your professional and personal wellbeing.

Does LCP offer industrial work placements as part of sandwich courses?

We don’t currently offer industrial work placements as part of sandwich courses. We run a summer internship programme, open to penultimate year students who wish to experience what it’s like to work as an analyst at LCP. The programme runs across July and August each year.

How would you describe LCP’s work environment?

The working environment at LCP is friendly, supportive and sociable. When you start you will be assigned a buddy who will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, but you will find everyone in the office to be very approachable. The office is open plan, and Partners are more than happy to answer any questions – they want to get to know you too!

You will find there is plenty going on socially. We have sports teams and a social committee dedicated to organising a variety of events throughout the year, as well as more informal after-work drinks with your team. You will never be short of things to do, and everyone will go out of their way to help you fit in.

Is there any opportunity for interaction with partners and other senior members of the firm as a graduate at LCP?

Absolutely! One of the benefits of working for a medium-sized firm like LCP is that you will have contact with a variety of colleagues across all levels of the firm. From the moment you join you will be encouraged to be actively involved and to make a real contribution to the work we do for our clients. And, if you are doing a good job, it won’t go unnoticed – you will be given greater responsibility and opportunities to work with more senior staff. It is not uncommon for our graduates to work directly with partners and senior consultants within their first year of joining.

In addition, LCP partners are strongly encouraged to take our graduates along to client meetings so that you can see first-hand how the work you do is communicated to our clients.

I am due to graduate soon, but I have no work experience. Can I still apply to your graduate programme?

Definitely! We don’t require or expect any prior experience. We ask that you have attained a degree (2.1 or higher) and good A Level grades. There are slightly different requirements depending on what department you are applying for, so I would recommend checking out the FAQ’s on our website.

We consider extenuating circumstances and will assess them on a case-by-case basis.

What support do you offer successful candidates?

We want our people to succeed and thrive at LCP, so we provide a wide range of support to help you develop both professionally and personally throughout your career.

From day one, you'll benefit from a structured induction programme, ongoing technical and professional skills training, and support from experienced colleagues and mentors. You'll also have access to our dedicated Training & Development team, who are on hand to help you make the most of the opportunities available to you.

For roles that involve working towards a professional qualification, we offer a comprehensive study package, including financial support for exam fees, study materials, tutorials and professional subscriptions, as well as dedicated study leave and guidance from a study mentor.

We recognise that everyone's career path is different, and development at LCP isn't limited to professional qualifications. Whether you're building technical expertise, developing consulting skills, or exploring new areas of interest, we'll support you in achieving your goals and progressing your career.

Most importantly, we understand that learning and development are ongoing processes. We encourage our people to challenge themselves, learn from experience, and celebrate their achievements along the way.

When does your graduate intake start? Do you have one intake per year?

We have one graduate intake each year, with our graduates joining LCP in September.

We recognise that starting your first graduate role can be a significant transition, so we invest heavily in helping you settle into life at LCP and build your confidence from day one. Your first week will include a structured induction programme, where you'll meet your fellow graduates, learn more about LCP and our culture, develop key workplace skills, and gain an understanding of how the business operates.

You'll also spend time getting to know your team, your working environment, and the people who will support you throughout your graduate programme. Alongside this, you'll receive ongoing support from your manager, colleagues and the Early Careers team as you adjust to professional life and begin developing your skills and experience.

Joining alongside a cohort of graduates from across the business means you'll have a network of peers to learn from, share experiences with, and grow alongside throughout your time at LCP.

Do you have any tips for graduates thinking of applying?

Do your research on our recruitment process so you know what to expect (we wrote an article all about it here). This will help you feel more prepared and relaxed so you can show your best self.

We are not looking to catch you out but support you to showcase your skills and knowledge. We want your experience with LCP to be friendly and not intimidating! Remember, recruitment is a two-way street - as much as we are getting to know you, we know you are also getting to know us. You want to be reassured you are making the right choice to start your career at the right firm for you.

How does LCP establish strong relationships within their departments?

Building strong relationships is an important part of life at LCP. We believe our best work happens when people collaborate, share ideas and learn from each other, which is why being connected is one of our core values.

From the moment you join, you'll work closely with colleagues across different teams and levels of the business. We encourage an open and collaborative culture where people are comfortable asking questions, sharing perspectives and supporting one another.

Regular team meetings, informal catchups and firm-wide updates from our leadership team help everyone stay connected to both their colleagues and LCP's wider goals. Through our appraisal and development processes, you'll also have regular conversations with your manager about your development and how your work contributes to the firm's success.

We also recognise the importance of celebrating achievements together. Whether it's through team events, social activities or our annual LCP Cares Awards, we take pride in recognising the contributions our people make and the positive impact they have on colleagues, clients and communities.

This creates an environment where people can build meaningful relationships, develop their strengths and feel part of a supportive and inclusive team.

Can I apply to more than one department for your graduate programme?

Unfortunately, no. We encourage you to apply for the programme and department that interests you the most. Please have a look at our various departments and roles and choose the one that best aligns with your interests.
