We caught up with Fernanda to learn more about her experience at SMBC Group
Describe your experience on the Kaika programme?
The Kaika Graduate program has been a steep learning curve. Starting the scheme in Leverage Finance, I’ve been able to immerse myself into this world and learn about the different products that SMBC can offer to its clients. Everyone’s been supportive and has made me feel part of the team. The Kaika cohort is one of the key aspects of the scheme to me, as it provides a support network and allows you to learn from other products and services that you might not necessarily deal with on a daily basis.
What do you enjoy most about working at SMBC?
The culture! Everyone is approachable and willing to help. It is a very friendly environment, where I’ve felt welcome and supported. My entire team is invested in my development and have provided me with the tools to excel in this role. I really enjoy getting a similar treatment as any other junior member in the team and I appreciate the level of responsibility given to me - although at times challenging, it is always rewarding and exciting.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about joining the programme?
Just go for it! Of course, do your research on the company, but regardless of if you’ve had previous experience or not, I highly suggest applying to the Kaika scheme. It is a fantastic opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the banking world, and you’ll be able to develop not only technical skills, but also transferrable which are useful at work and in your personal life.
