Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
Hello, I’m Oscar! I was born in Hong Kong 22 years ago and joined the Accenture Software Engineering Graduate Programme in Newcastle a few months ago. Since joining, I’ve had the opportunity to develop my skills in a fast-paced and supportive environment. I studied Computer Science at Newcastle University, specialising in Videogame Development, which gave me a great foundation in creative problem-solving and teamwork.

Before joining Accenture, I worked as a Developer at a small start-up in Oxford, where I picked up hands-on experience and practical skills that I use every day in my current role. If you’re looking for a place where you can grow, be challenged, and make a real impact from day one, Accenture is a fantastic choice!
What inspired you to apply for this role?
Accenture has always stood out as a truly exciting company to me. As someone who was uncertain about my next steps after university, consulting immediately caught my eye because of the sheer variety of opportunities it offers for personal and professional growth. My interest in technology meant I wanted to be somewhere at the forefront of innovation - and Accenture is exactly that. Here, you get to work hands-on with the latest technologies and collaborate with some of the brightest, most forward-thinking minds in the industry. What really sealed the deal for me was hearing first-hand about Accenture’s exceptional work culture from a friend. Their strong focus on inclusivity and work-life balance gave me confidence that I could grow, learn new skills, and enjoy the experience.
What would a ‘normal’ day look like for someone in your role?
No two days at Accenture are the same! Since joining I’ve been making the most of Accenture’s huge range of training resources, brushing up my skills so I’m well-prepared for whatever is next. I’ve had great opportunity to meet and connect with colleagues across the company, which has given me a real sense of what Accenture’s culture is all about and who the key people are behind the scenes.
Outside of this, I’ve enjoyed getting involved in different activities - like organising a men’s mental health charity football match and attending an AWS conference to learn about the latest tech developments. These experiences haven’t just helped me grow - they’ve allowed me to contribute to the Accenture community in meaningful ways.
What do you find most interesting with the sector/industry you’re in?
What truly captivates me about the technology and consulting industry is its ever-evolving nature and the breadth of experiences it offers. The sector is dynamic, with constant advances inviting you to learn and adapt. There’s a unique energy in being part of a field where the boundaries are always being pushed and new solutions are continually crafted to address emerging challenges. The chance to collaborate with like-minded individuals, explore diverse perspectives, and be part of meaningful change makes this industry both inspiring and fulfilling.
What’s the culture like at the office you’re based in?
I love the culture here at the Newcastle office! One aspect of my early days at Accenture that’s really made a difference is the atmosphere here. The newly refurbished space feels modern, comfortable, and well thought-out for collaboration. There’s a buzz around the place, with regular visits from food vans and a versatile events area that’s always in use for something interesting, whether it’s team socials or skills workshops.
What’s stood out to me most is the sense of community. The open-plan layout means it’s easy to mingle and chat with colleagues from different teams, and everyone I’ve met has been approachable and welcoming, which helped me settle in quickly. The culture encourages you to be yourself and get involved, no matter your background or department, which has made starting my career here a genuinely positive experience.
Finally, any tips for anyone who’d like to apply for a role at Accenture?
If there’s one piece of advice I’d share, it’s this: don’t be afraid to show your personality and let your enthusiasm shine. Sure, having the right skills and knowledge is important – but what really makes a difference here is being someone who’s eager to support others and work well as part of a team. If you’re ambitious, open to learning, and happy to throw yourself into new challenges (all with a dash of humility!), you’ll fit right in.
The application process is as much about finding people who bring energy and curiosity as it is about technical know-how. So, lean into your interests, be bold in sharing your ideas, and don’t forget to have fun along the way. Ask questions, connect with your future teammates, and remember that being both interesting and interested can take you far. Above everything, be yourself!
