Here at Penguin we recognise the value and opportunity that connecting colleagues brings.
Each of our colleague-led networks is steered by two co-chairs who are chosen by the network members. They hold the role for two years (at which point they can be re-elected). Each Chair is given an annual financial reward to recognise the work they do outside of their day job and highlight the important role these individuals play in creating an inclusive workplace and bringing about a culture of belonging.
There are also two paid Inclusion Action Group (IAG) representatives chosen by the network members. This group was established in 2021 as the company’s key body that oversees progress against the diversity and inclusivity strategy. The reps therefore, make sure that the members of each network are fairly represented in this strategy and its delivery.
Our current colleague networks
Access Ability - Advocates for inclusion of those who are disabled, neurodivergent, or have long-term health conditions.
Be Well - Focuses on colleague wellbeing; how we can support each other and work with the company on wellbeing events and initiatives.
Colour[Full] - Is for BAME colleagues, with over 130 members and counting. We host socials, book giveaways, and create opportunities to build a community and have fun! Everything we do is for us, by us.
Common Ground - Supports people from a working-class or lower socio-economic background. We're a welcoming and inclusive space and work to reduce economic, regional, and social barriers to publishing.
Penguin Parents - Is a space for colleagues at any point on their parenting journey! We amplify the voice of parents within the business to ensure that Penguin is a supportive environment.
Pride - Is a supportive and safe space for all LGBTQIA+ colleagues. We host social gatherings, community activities, book giveaways and a vibrant online chat!
Green Team - Are focused on impactful sustainability at Penguin. We share regular news and run company-wide sustainability initiatives for colleagues to take part in.
The Muslim Accord - Helps Muslim colleagues connect with others they might not otherwise meet. While we want to create a space for people who identify as Muslim and foster a sense of kinship within Penguin, the network is open to all.
I Am Remarkable - Strives to empower underrepresented groups to speak openly about their accomplishments in the workplace and beyond, thereby breaking modesty norms and glass ceilings.
Prime Time - Is Penguin’s age inclusion network that voices the perspectives of our older colleagues and those with adult caring responsibilities. We ensure proper representation, challenge over-50s assumptions, and promote the value of an intergenerational workforce.
