Placement Applications Handbook 1

Where do I start?

The first step to any good application is to research Amgen! It is important to know both the company you are applying to and the role you are looking for. One can do this by navigating around our company website and having a look at who we are. For example:

  • What is our mission statement?
  • What values we uphold?

Ultimately, you want to know the company you are applying to and if you will enjoy your time there.

What does a good CV look like?

A good CV is vital to a strong application. It is what any company will look at to see if you are qualified for your placement. Amgen will want to see:

  • Basic qualifications: University degree modules/A-levels
  • Relevant skills: Programs that you have used/achievements and specific coursework that developed your softer skills
  • Relevant work experience: Internships and past working experience

What makes a strong application?

Amgen wants to see that you have genuine interest in the role you are applying for. That means that you want to state why you are interested in the pharmaceutical industry and equally why the specific role you are applying to. Elaborate on relevant experiences you mentioned in your CV that make you the right person for our placement.

Always proofread and check for errors/spelling mistakes!

How about the interview?

Amgen placement interviews vary in structure and style depending on which role you have applied for but no matter the role, the following all apply:

  • Speak Clearly: Take pauses and calm yourself before you arrive
  • Prepare: Know your CV/cover letter and know what types of questions you may hear (e.g. interview tips from Hays).
  • Dress smart: It is better to be too formal than too casual
  • Arrive early: Whether the interview is online/in person, make sure that you arrive with plenty of time

Remember that what you are trying to do is show Amgen that you want to work there. You also know that you want to work at Amgen because you have researched them, and you further know what you can bring to the job.

Remember the interview is there for you as well!
