In Jersey, we operate a little differently. Graduates who join the Jersey programme are given real responsibility early on and experience a variety of placements across business areas.

“My first placement was in Institutional Banking which is a very important area of RBS International in terms of revenue ” says Arabella Wojciechowski, a current graduate on the scheme. “My second placement was in International Retail and Commercial Banking in Retail Banking, Premier Banking, Mortgages and Coutts Crown Dependencies. My third placement, which I’ll soon be starting, is in Treasury which I’m very excited to begin!”

Crispin Antony, another graduate, also enjoyed the breadth of exposure. “The first team I worked on was the Digital Channels team... updating, improving and creating webpages for the NatWest International, Isle of Man Bank and RBS International websites. My second placement was in the Threat Management Team in Financial Crime. On this team, I worked on proactive horizon scanning for threats and completed data analysis to better understand potential threats.”

Their projects weren’t just theoretical – they were impactful. Arabella supported client communications and contributed to performance reviews presented to senior leaders. Crispin worked on A/B testing the homepage for better customer engagement, built an AI prompting guide to support Financial Crime teams, and compiled reports on terrorism financing and money laundering.

While the breadth of work is important, it’s the culture of support and development that really sets the Jersey programme apart.

“There are so many inspiring people here” Arabella says. “I find our new CEO Jane Howard incredibly inspiring and authentic – she always has time for graduates… and of course all the team in the Gender Network who give so much time and effort outside of their roles to drive gender equality improvements in the workplace.”

Crispin echoes this sentiment: “I enjoy working for NatWest Group because of the willingness to help one another and the strong sense of community – like all the Employee Led Networks. It is a dynamic workplace with so much going on and a lot of opportunities to develop yourself personally and professionally.”

Both grads emphasise how senior staff are not only accessible but also actively involved in mentoring and guiding newer colleagues.

“You get so many opportunities to be involved in whatever you’re interested in,” says Arabella. “The people you work with are very smart and curious, and there’s a real culture of building each other up to be our best.”

Life in Jersey offers something many grads overlook in large cities: balance.

“One thing I really enjoy about Jersey is the short commute,” says Crispin. “It only takes about 15 minutes to walk to the office – and it’ll be similar for anyone living in St Helier. At lunch, me and the other grads go to the harbour to eat and take in the view – and after work I love going for a walk around the beach before heading home.”

The Jersey office itself is built for collaboration and comfort. “The facilities are great,” he adds. “I really like the comfy chairs and pods – they’re perfect for introduction meetings or just getting to know new people.”

Arabella agrees. “I wake up and cycle to the office which takes around 20 minutes through the beautiful Jersey countryside and then along the coastal path which is a fantastic way to wake up”.

She also loves the grad community that a more intimate location provides. “At lunch many of the grads meet up and discuss how our days are going and anything interesting we’ve learnt. We usually sit by the harbour which is beautiful.”

The professional opportunities are matched by the lifestyle Jersey offers.

“I love living in Jersey,” says Crispin. “It’s beautiful, with great beaches and loads of great weather – it’s consistently ranked as the sunniest place in the UK.”

“There are so many great swimming spots, and I love how easy it is to do water sports like kayaking or surfing,” he adds. “And being so close to France also means it’s easy to take a weekend trip to St Malo.”
