What to Expect When Applying to LCP: A Guide from Jess in the Early Careers Team

Hi, my name is Jess and I'm part of the Early Careers team at LCP.

One of my favourite parts of the role is supporting students and graduates through the recruitment process, and a question I often receive is: "What should I expect when I apply?" To help answer that, I've put together an overview of our recruitment process, along with some insights and tips that I hope you'll find useful.

Graduate Programme & Summer Internship Applications

We offer two main opportunities: Graduate Programme and Summer Internship. Applications open Monday 28 September 2026 and close on Friday 23 October 2026. Please be aware we may close as early as Friday 9 October 2026, depending on application volume.

Stage 1: Online Application

For stage 1, we ask that you complete a short application form so that we can learn more about you and check your eligibility.

Jess’s top tips:

  • Take your time: Ensure all details are true and accurate.
  • Apply early: Some roles may close as early as Friday 9 October 2026.

Stage 2: Online Assessments

Stage 2 includes three assessments. An online motivational test. A behavioural test and either a cognitive or coding assessment depending on the role. The behavioural assessment helps us understand how you are likely to behave in different situations and understand what motivates you. The cognitive assessment is designed to evaluate a range of skills, including critical thinking, numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning and diagrammatic reasoning. The coding assessment helps us understand your potential to code rather than any particular language experience you may have.

Jess's top tips:

  • Review the instructions carefully before starting the assessment.
  • Read all the sources on each page to get a strong understanding of your role and department.

Stage 3: Pre-recorded Video Interview

If successful at stage 2, you will then receive instructions on how to complete a pre-recorded video interview. These interviews are assessed by our people from the relevant departments, rather than using AI.

Jess's top tips:

  • Preparation is key: It definitely helps to think about the kinds of questions you might be asked and have a few examples in mind.
  • Practice (even if it feels awkward!): Recording yourself isn’t something most people are used to, so don’t worry if it feels strange at first. I’d suggest doing a couple of practice runs on your phone – it really helps.
  • Find a good setup: A space with no distractions makes a big difference. It’ll help you stay focused and feel more confident.
  • Try to relax: Easier said than done, I know, but just treat it like a conversation and aim your body language towards the camera – this will help you answer the questions more naturally.

Stage 4: Assessment Centre

Selected candidates will be invited to an assessment centre, which are typically in person assessment centres at the relevant location. These days will provide an opportunity for us to get to know you and for you to get an insight into your chosen department and LCP’s culture.

Jess's top tips:

  • Be up to date: Check the news for any current events and sector related pieces to talk about during the day.
  • Dress code: Ensure that you know the dress code and if in doubt, business smart is a safe bet.
  • Arrive early: Plan your journey in advance so you know where you're going and give yourself plenty of time to arrive.
  • Use the STAR technique: When preparing competency-based examples, structure your answers using Situation, Task, Action and Result (STAR) to help keep your responses clear and focused.
  • Above all… be yourself and show us your personality: make sure to ask all the questions you need to, to ensure you’d be happy in our working environment if you are successful.
