Charlie secured her internship with Procter & Gamble

We recently caught up with Charlie about how she secured an internship with Procter & Gamble, how Bright Network helped her secure the role and her top tips for members looking to follow in her footsteps.

What stood out to you about the firm you secured your role with?

Procter & Gamble initially stood out to me because they believe in giving their new hires responsibility from day one. They provide the opportunity to work on challenging, meaningful projects with a real impact, even as an intern. I also admired the strong importance that P&G places on sustainability and integrity. Environmental sustainability and social responsibility are of great importance to me, and I was keen to apply to a firm with a strong ethos and core values that I aligned with.

How did Bright Network help you secure this role?

Prior to applying, I attended a BrightLive seminar on CVs and cover letters. This allowed me to adapt and strengthen my CV and cover letter. A member of the Bright Network team also provided great personal feedback on both documents. I felt confident that my application was competitive and suitable for the role based on this feedback. Additionally, I used resources on the Bright Network website as part of my preparation for online assessments and interviews.

What top three tips would you give Bright Network members looking to follow in your footsteps?

  1. Research the company in-depth and beyond their homepage. Use this research to personalise your application and interview answers.
  2. Invest plenty of time into each application. Select the internships/jobs that you are a good fit for and make every application exceptional. Rushed applications are unlikely to stand out, so focus your time and effort on the applications you are most passionate about.
  3. Prepare early. It takes years to build up a good CV so start as soon as possible. Think about the skills you might want to demonstrate and activities where you could build these skills. Societies and clubs at your school/university are great places to start.
