We recently caught up with Shirom about securing an insights week opportunity with Citi, top tips for the application process and how Bright Network helped secure the role
What stood out to you about Citi?
One of the main things that my spring week brought out in particular about Citi was the culture and the way they approach working. Banking and finance in general have a very stressful environment, but Citi does the best it can to make sure everyone’s well catered for in terms of the culture and making sure to give people days off and giving people flexibility with family and friends. They also give you the opportunity to do what you find most interesting. Being able to network and connect with other teams within the bank was something I really enjoyed.
How did you make your application stand out?
The main thing was networking with people and being able to say in a cover letter or interview that you’ve talked to this person within the bank. It might not even be in your particular area of interest but being able to say you’ve connected with this person and taken the initiative to learn about the firm is definitely something that helped.
What are your tips for tackling tough interview questions?
If it’s a tough question, then they probably don’t expect you to know the answer. In one interview, I was asked a market sizing question which they didn’t know the answer to and neither did I. All they were looking for was finding out how I processed the question. I suggest breaking down the question as much as you can, break down the wording, ask for clarification and, if you really don’t know, then just ask for help.
How did Bright Network help you secure this role?
I got weekly emails from Bright Network when a new role opened and was available to me. I also really liked the deadline tracker tool which I found useful.
What top tip would you give Bright Network members looking to follow in your footsteps?
If you’re applying for spring weeks, the one thing I didn’t do that you probably should do is apply as early as possible. As soon as you get the Bright Network email telling you to apply, look at the questions, start filling out the form and reach out to employees of the company as soon as you can. This way, you’ll stand a much better chance of being successful.
