We know that one of the best ways to understand what it's like to work at a firm is to hear first hand from their employees. We caught up with Dean, Harveen, Thomas and Alexander to see what they had to say...
Dean, Analyst Class of 2010
“While many things in this industry have changed in the decade since I was a summer intern in this very office, the position I find myself in today is testament to the incredible opportunity the Greenhill platform provides junior team members to fulfil their potential in an extremely competitive industry. I benefited enormously from the responsibility that was entrusted in me as an analyst, both in terms of producing technical analyses and working directly with senior bankers, but also in terms of direct client exposure literally months after completing training – and the scope and depth of that entrusted responsibility simply grows and grows as you become more senior.”
Dean read Economics and Management at Pembroke College, Oxford and, having interned at Greenhill in summer 2008, completed his degree in 2009. As an intern, he valued the opportunity to work closely with senior colleagues and particularly enjoyed learning about a large number of different industries and companies thanks to Greenhill’s generalist model – and a decade later remains very much of the same opinion.
Thomas, Associate Class of 2016
"I most enjoy the fast-paced nature of the job and continual challenge. All projects in Investment Banking are different and therefore require a unique and often innovative approach, this requires the junior team to think outside the box and consider the best approach to any task."
Thomas completed a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Accounting at the University of Melbourne. He joined Greenhill primarily due to the people and the appeal of working in smaller teams. He was drawn to the ability to work in small teams where he would have client and senior exposure from day 1, which was beneficial for his development. As an Associate, he manages the day-to-day execution of projects and also oversees and assists the Analysts.
Alexander, Associate Class of 2018
"The variety of the role keeps it interesting, however, I personally enjoy meeting and interacting with clients and management teams the most."
Alexander read Spanish and Portuguese at Bristol University and gained the ACA qualification afterwards. He joined Greenhill as an Analyst and has progressed to Associate. His main reason for choosing the firm was its great reputation and the chance to work on large, landmark transactions in streamlined teams. As an Associate, he enjoys the variety of work, the interaction with clients and management teams, and the boutique environment in which everyone is close and each person's contribution is genuinely valuable.
