Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) is a national family of schools committed to delivering an excellent education that launches all the children in our care into a remarkable life. AET is partnered with Ark Teacher Training to provide the very best training and start to your career as a teacher.

The Programme

We pride ourselves on the support our trainees receive on the programme – which starts even before your very first day in school. You’ll come together as new trainees for Summer School over two weeks in August to learn about the programme, educational theory and practice so that you feel confident in your role when you enter the classroom in September.

Working full-time in one of our schools, you'll also complete a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) and gain your Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). You’ll be fully supported by your tutor, in-school coach, fellow trainees and weekly training sessions throughout your training year to ensure you have the tools you need to feel confident and prepared as you develop into a fantastic teacher.

The Recruitment Process

Application Form
We'll ask you to complete an application with a personal statement exploring your desire and motivation to become a teacher.

Telephone Interview
If you meet the selection criteria a telephone conversation will be arranged. This will include some competency based questions and will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have at this stage. Please ensure you have carried out some research on the school you have applied to and our training programme.

School-led Interview (online)
If successful at the telephone interview stage, you will be invited to an online interview with the school you have applied to. This will involve a 5 minute teaching episode and some competency based questions.

Hopefully we’ll be contacting you to offer you a place on our programme. We will complete some pre-employment checks such as references, DBS, qualifications and Right to Work status to enrol you onto the programme.

Equality and diversity

Diversity and inclusivity in teaching is essential – teachers have a unique ability to impact what students believe about what’s possible for their lives, and are often some of only a few adults that young people really engage with. It’s therefore incredibly important that pupils have a rich and diverse teaching body to learn from; they’re able to see themselves in positions of leadership and authority, while their perceptions and world-views are broadened.

But it’s not just our students who benefit from diversity. At AET, we believe that inclusivity and the representation of people, circumstances, identities, cultures and ethnicities from all sections of society make us stronger as individuals and as an organisation.
We all have incredible stories to share and learn from; and we work together to create an organisation that not only provides a safe, nurturing space for diversity and open dialogue, but one that celebrates people, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage/civil partnership status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

At AET, we have a particular responsibility to advocate for diversity and inclusion in teacher training to make a positive difference to the lives of our pupils. Roughly 37% of AET students are eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant compared to 24% nationally, and about 33% are from ethnic minority backgrounds. As of November 2020, 19% of teachers in AET schools described themselves as being in a minority ethnic group, compared with the national average of 15%.

We recognise there’s still ongoing work to be done to ensure that AET recruitment and training practices are inclusive and promote diversity throughout the organisation.
