Why become a teacher?

Teaching is rewarding profession - in more ways than one.

  • You’ll get the opportunity to inspire the next generation.
  • Earn a competitive salary of between £28,000 to £34,000, depending on where you teach.
  • Amazing career progression, and a generous pension.

Teachers are also given much more holiday than most careers, allowing you to pursue your hobbies and interests alongside your career.

Perhaps most importantly, teaching offers you the chance to do something that makes a real difference to society. Check out some of our videos below to see how teaching makes an impact.

Training and development

You can choose how you get into teaching.

You can either:

  • Study at a university as a postgraduate student.
  • Train as you teach at a school or group of schools.

Whichever route you choose, your training will involve roughly the same amount of classroom experience and learning.

Some teacher training programmes like the ‘school direct approach’ offer you the chance to earn a salary. You may also be eligible for funding, depending on which subject you teach.
