Public Key Cryptography: How numbers secure the internet
Public Key cryptography is an essential tool underpinning security on the internet. The talk will first describe the origins of public key some 50 years ago and the mathematical techniques involved. The focus will then shift to a variety of applications that public key cryptography enables, and end with a discussion about the future, and in particular how we are meeting the threat from quantum computing
James Maynard, Field Medallist 2022:
Patterns in prime numbers
Several of the most famous open questions in pure mathematics are about whether certain patterns of prime numbers occur infinitely often. Such questions have many important connections to other questions in mathematics and to cryptography, but have resisted efforts of mathematicians for the past 100 years or more. These questions, and how developments over the past decade have made progress on these long-standing problems, will be the focus of this talk.
Networking drinks and canapés
At the conclusion of the talks, you’ll also have the chance to expand your professional network, speak with our Researchers and learn more about G-Research over drinks and canapés.
Tickets are complimentary and travel costs will be reimbursed for UK-based students outside of London.
