For R&D focused businesses, patents are often at the forefront of their intellectual property strategy. In this session we'll provide an overview of patent rights, including how they are created, why some businesses value them and how the monopoly they generate protects inventions. We'll also discuss a very recent fundamental change to the structure of the European patent system: the introduction of the Unified Patents Court and Unitary Patents.
