About Ark

Ark is a charity that aims to transform children’s lives through education. In the UK, the strongest predictor of how a child will do at school continues to be what their parents do for a living – but why should this be the accepted status quo? We work mainly in communities of lower income with a history of academic underachievement and by working in one of our 39 schools, you will be directly making a positive impact on young people’s lives through high-quality teaching, making educational equity a reality.

About Ark Teacher Training

Ark Teacher Training (ATT) is a school-based programme offering the perfect mixture of theory and classroom practice to develop you into the best teacher you can be. Trainees are based in school, so you are part of the community building fantastic relationships with the students from day one.

Why join Ark Teacher Training?

“97% of trainees feel well supported by their tutors.” (ATT Trainee Survey, 2022) Our programme consists of:

  • Independent and team teaching
  • Help co-planning your lessons
  • Training once a week involving professional and subject-specific studies
  • 1:1 coaching and mentoring
  • Time built in to work on PGCE assignments (two for the year)
  • Bursary’s of up to £28,000, or our starting salary is from £21,106 to £26,471 depending on location and subject

At the end of your training year, you’ll have achieved a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status. You can then progress onto our highly supportive Early Career Teacher (ECT) induction programme. We will help you secure your ECT role at your training school or another in the Ark network and guide you through your first few years of teaching. It is very rare for our trainees to leave the network after their training year and many progress into leadership roles within Ark.

Diversity and Inclusion at ATT

At Ark Teacher Training, we have a particular responsibility to advocate for diversity and inclusion in teacher training to make a positive difference to the lives of our pupils. We are committed to attracting, developing and retaining a diverse workforce, with a broad range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. We have therefore taken steps to address our own internal bias and consider how our recruitment practices are impacting diversity.

We welcome any candidate requests for reasonable adjustments to the selection process in order to ensure equal access to all candidates.

Ark is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in our academies. To meet this responsibility, we follow a rigorous selection process.
