We have an exciting opportunity available for a student to spend a placement year starting in September in our Manchester office within our Finance team.

What will you do

The role will be part of the group’s finance team, providing support to both the business partner team (which includes three qualified accountants) as well as the financial control team.

  • You will gain the following from this placement year:
  • Experience of working within a professional team of qualified and part qualified accountants
  • Understand how to prepare a set of management accounts
  • See first hand how quality financial information aids business decision making
  • Receive training in the use of a fully integrated finance system
  • Understand how transactional processing interacts with business support
  • See how being part of a group services support team drives growth in the business

Key responsibilities

  • Report into the business partner team
  • Provide analysis & commentary on weekly and monthly KPI reports for the group
  • Post accruals, prepayments and other journals as part of the monthly management accounts process
  • Support the business partners in monthly and quarterly work in progress review, including preparation of monthly journal and detailed analysis of unusual movements
  • Assist with the budgeting and quarterly forecasting process
  • Assist with working capital control for the group via work in progress and debtor analysis
  • Support business partners in project work through production of reports and analysis in order to drive business performance improvements
  • In addition, there will be opportunities to gain experience in our financial control team over the course of the placement.

What are we looking for

  • Someone who is currently studying for an accountancy degree with an expectation of a minimum 2:1
  • Good IT skills, particularly in Excel
  • Strong communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Must have right to work within UK
