Bevan Brittan is a leading commercial law firm. Alongside our recognised expertise in housing, local government, and health and social care, we are specialists in the construction, energy and resource management, higher education and financial services sectors.
Supported by our valued business services professionals, our award-winning and growing legal teams provide almost 2,000 organisations with commercial, corporate, property, finance, regulatory, employment and litigation (commercial and clinical negligence) legal and advisory services.
As a responsible business, we embrace four values: Relationships, Reputation, Responsible and Results. These give us a sense of purpose. They influence the decisions we make and how we work with each other. Importantly, they motivate us to deliver meaningful outcomes for our clients and the communities that we’re part of.
Consistently recognised as one of The Times Best Law Firms and highly ranked across the legal directories, we are proud of our hard-earned reputation. Our 2023/24 financial results confirmed both revenue and profit growth for an eleventh consecutive year, ensuring our ability to continue investing in our people.
Looking to the future, we’re targeting ambitious growth and success. And we’re looking for the best people to be part of it.
Your Training Contract
Training contracts are provided across our four offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds and London.
Your two year training contract with Bevan Brittan will be made up of four six month seats offering you the opportunity to gain experience across our practice areas.
We offer trainee seats across all five of our departments; Health & Care, Commercial & Infrastructure, Litigation, Advisory & Regulatory, Employment, Pensions & Immigrations, and Property. Each department encompasses a number of teams. You can read more about each of our teams here.
From the outset you will be given real responsibility. The emphasis is on getting stuck in, learning and enjoying yourself. You'll be taking part in client meetings, doing your fair share of research and drafting and attending court hearings from the off.
We believe it is crucial that our trainees have access to an extensive support network. For each seat you will be supervised by an experienced lawyer. You will also have the support of our Early Talent team who are always available to answer any questions or generally offer advice.
Eligibility
As a professional national law firm, we are looking for strong academic achievement from applicants; ABB at A-Levels and 2:1 at degree level is our expectation (the degree does not have to be in law).
We also recognise the value of relevant, strong, commercial work experience and welcome applications from individuals who can demonstrate this, but may not fully meet our academic requirements. When applying, please do let us know of any clear mitigating circumstances, or if you have at least three years' relevant commercial work experience.
Work-life balance
We offer a substantial benefits package to all employees. For trainees this includes:
- Competitive starting salary (including London weighting where appropriate)
- 25 days annual paid holiday
- The option to purchase up to 5 days additional holiday
- Additional unpaid qualification leave which trainees can take at the end of their training contract
- Full funding for the SQE where appropriate (unfortunately we are unable to offer retrospective reimbursement)
- A maintenance bursary for candidates still studying their SQE (or equivalent)
- Pension with 5% employee contribution
- Private medical insurance
- Permanent health insurance/income protection
- A range of voluntary benefits including season ticket loans, childcare vouchers and Cyclescheme
Please note, you can only apply to one vacancy in a 12 month period. We may close this role for applications before the current deadline.
