This is an entry-level role, suited to those who or are due to graduate university in 2024 or have already graduated. Our Graduate Development Programme is a two-year learning programme with an aim to develop well-rounded specialist graduates in a chosen business area. You are a permanent employee from day one and will have a real opportunity to make an impact at Cala through executive sponsored projects as well as completing two varying discipline rotations across the wider business.

The programme includes

  • A three-day formal induction in Edinburgh
  • Classroom and virtual sessions covering key stages in the construction lifecycle, and key business skills such as commercial awareness and influencing
  • Interactive group projects working with a number of other graduates in disciplines across the business allowing you to build a strong network
  • Networking opportunities with senior managers and peers
  • One-to-one support from line managers, mentors, recent graduates, and industry professionals

Alongside programme activity, you will receive on-the-job training and play an integral role within the Central Design team. Our Central Design team is responsible for reviewing the architectural design of our homes. They have a key focus on our housetype ranges, looking at new trends, new regulations, product and specification, layout designs and sustainability within our homes.

Your key responsibilities will therefore be as follows

  • Assist Product Design Manager and Architectural Technicians with assessing and coordinating design drawings, with a focus on supporting and developing a new range of housetype
  • Present design concepts to senior teams and cross-functional teams
  • Attend meetings with the design and project teams to assess project progress
  • Liaise with cross functional teams and external consultants to ensure updates on plans are communicated to relevant parties throughout projects
  • Make design adjustments where necessary based on feedback from stakeholders
  • Research and incorporate sustainable design principles and energy-efficient features into projects
  • Liaise with construction teams on-site to ensure construction is proceeding according to plan and specification

About you

We are seeking a new team member who is confident and has the passion and drive to succeed at the highest level.

You will have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field (i.e. Architectural Technology). You should also be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Proactive, with ability to work on your own initiative
  • Has an eye for detail
  • Passion for sustainability
  • Effective time management, organisation, and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A team player
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Previous experience with AutoCAD, Revit, 3D Max, and SketchUp desirable
  • Interest in the housebuilding industry
  • Industry experience is beneficial but not required
  • Must have a full Right to Work in the UK
  • Must have a valid UK Driving License, access to a car/vehicle and a willingness to travel

Location

Cala Group Limited operates two head offices that support our eight regional Cala businesses. This role will be based in our Scotland Head Office (Edinburgh). As part of this role, you will be required to visit our developments across Scotland whilst additionally working a mix of in-office and remotely.
