We are currently looking for a motivated individual, keen to carve a career in the Insurance industry, to join our Delegated Authorities Underwriting team as a Technical Assistant.

This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking for their first, or next move within the insurance industry. The successful candidate will be working within the UK Property team that writes business via Delegated Authorities issued to a network of MGAs (Coverholders).

Responsibilities 

  • Analyse monthly Bordereau reports, this includes identifying risks outside contract guidelines and working with the MGA’s to rectify
  • Analyse data, including rating, terms etc of the portfolio as a whole, as well as individual Binding authorities – working with all data sources within the company
  • Assist with the maintenance of Underwriting manuals and other underwriting materials under direction of the Underwriting team
  • Monitor the unit’s income position
  • Weekly/ monthly/ annual reporting including preparing data for weekly and divisional meetings, reinsurance and any ad hoc management reporting requests
  • Collaborate with Actuarial, Claims and Cat Management in the testing and implementation of new rating software and Third Party data providers to enhance Underwriting performance
  • Manage various short and long term projects as assigned by Senior Underwriters
  • Assist with internal Underwriting File Audits and produce reports where necessary
  • Monitoring the underwriter’s workloads and reporting to ensure all risk records are completed within the time frame specified within the underwriting guidelines
  • Assist in preparation of all necessary contract documentation required for referral of both new and renewal business
  • Maintain Underwriting files
  • Assist with ongoing regulatory reporting requirements
  • Responsible for administrative duties as needed to assist the Underwriting department

Skills and experience

  • Good communication skills

  • Have accountability for assigned tasks
  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage workload priorities effectively
  • Desire to expand knowledge within the industry via professional exams
  • Data mining, statistical modelling and data visualisation
  • Experience with Microsoft Access and Power BI is preferable but not essential.
  • High level understanding of Excel, should be proficient in creating complex formulae
  • Highly numerate and logical – strong mathematical/statistical knowledge is advantageous
  • Ability to interpret large volumes of data and present in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to articulate findings in writing and/or in person both internally and externally
  • Interpret written guidelines for Underwriting rules and apply to real life scenarios
