Currie & Brown has exciting graduate opportunities in quantity surveying to be based in our London office.

As a graduate quantity surveyor, you will advise, report on and control all commercial and financial aspects of projects and contracts. The role includes offering support to allow projects to be safely delivered on time, to budget and to achieve the highest levels of client satisfaction.

You will assist in providing commercial expertise for projects to maximise returns by working within robust procedures to support the project manager.

Your responsibilities 

  • Supporting the line manager to produce and process and manage sub-contractor documents and accounts
  • Assisting the team to conduct tender analysis and bidding, tender document administration, material taking-off and pricing, measurement of works, valuation of variation, etc
  • Preparing cost plans and estimates
  • Producing bill of quantities/activity schedule for payment purposes
  • Producing cashflow forecasts for internal and client purposes
  • Producing relevant monthly reports for line manager to review
  • Attending site inspections, visits, site meetings and tender interviews when required
  • Contributing to and attending financial and progress meetings with the client engineers and sub-contractors as required
  • Providing support for the line manager in terms of data input
  • Participating in giving feedback to estimators and contracts managers with regard to contract pricing, project profit/loss, pricing omissions, etc

Training and progression (APC programme)

We will provide training and support through our industry-leading structured RICS APC programme. With your commitment and our support, you’ll become a chartered surveyor in a minimum of two years (longer if a conversion course is required).

Attaining RICS accreditation is a standard requirement for Currie & Brown’s professional employees. The company seeks to produce high-calibre practitioners through its rigorous programme.

Candidates will commit to ongoing studying and document preparation, while regular assessment ensures progress and identifies where further study or support is required. The programme includes:

  • Self-study outside business hours
  • Bonus payment on completion of APC
  • Mentorship from an experienced colleague
  • Training sessions with an external APC coach
  • Quarterly assessments
  • Coaching in soft skills
  • Individual face-to-face and telephone support in the six months leading up to the final assessment

Post-APC programme development

Once you gain chartership you can join a formal development programme designed to move the focus of learning into areas of commerciality, leadership and business development.
